Society of Illustrators Virtual Saturday Stories

Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.

Meet Dilys Evans Founder’s Award Winner 2025 author and illustrator Angie Kang in her Los Angeles art studio, with her debut picture book, Our Lake. A deeply felt, lyrical story about siblings returning to a cherished place, with breathtaking illustrations, expressively painted with gouache, crayon, and colored pencils.

Angie will present behind the scenes about how she became an author and illustrator, read her beautiful book, share how she wrote the story and her illustration process. Followed by ~ How do we draw something that isn’t there anymore? A drawing workshop showing how to use  negative space to create landscapes of memory. Together, we will draw the things missing from our lives, such as a precious object or a lost loved one. Attendees will need blank paper (colored paper is a plus!), and some drawing utensils such as pencils, crayons, markers, and paint. Good for ALL ages 5 and up!
